Made To Measure Curtains

SKU: CUR Categories: ,

Made to measure curtains tend to be more costly than ready-made curtains. This is for obvious reasons: if you were to buy a tailor-made suit it would cost more than one bought off the rail in a high-street shop.

Our made to measure curtains are made specifically to your exact requirements. However, they may not be as expensive as you think! Try typing in your measurements for an instant quote and you may be pleasantly surprised!

Measuring for curtains

To be sure of the best possible fit, take time to measure your window carefully. We suggest using a metal tape measure for accuracy, as cloth measures can stretch.

Measuring for curtain drop

Curtains are best hung either to the floor, to a sill or below the sill. We recommend that curtains finish either:-

A) 1cm above the floor
B) 15-20cm below the sill (or 2cm above the radiator)
C) 1cm above the sill

Always measure in at least 3 positions across the track or pole as floors and sills are rarely level. To avoid curtains dragging across the floor or sill we recommend you use the shortest of these 3 measurements.

Pencil pleat – Classic uniform pleats give fullness to your curtain

When using a curtain track, measure from the top of the track to where the curtain is to finish. When using a curtain pole, measure from the underside of the decorative ring to where you want the curtain to finish.

Pinch pleat – Sophisticated pinch pleats are available with or without matching fabric-covered buttons

When using a curtain track, measure from the top of the track to where the curtain is to finish. When using a curtain pole, measure from the underside of the decorative ring to where you want the curtain to finish

Eyelets – Eyelet headings can only be used with a curtain pole

The eyelet will fit poles up to 30mm in diameter. The inner edge of the eyelet is set down 5cm from the top of the curtain. Measure from the top of the pole to where you want the curtains to finish and add 5cm.

Choose your lining

Lining your curtains protects the fabric from sunlight and improves insulation in your home when the weather’s cold. Select from the options below:

Standard Lining – 50% cotton, 50% polyester
Blackout – 70% polyester, 30% cotton. Specially coated to block out light, this is a particularly good option for bedrooms

How to Measure your Curtains

Choose your guide below:

Install New Tracks & Rods
Exisitng Tracks & Rods

Measuring to install new tracks and rods:

Width - Measure the desired width of the curtain, we recommend +200mm for each side for coverage and stacking.

Drop - Allow for at least +200mm above and below the window or to the floor. It's also recommended to avoid drilling into the lintel. It's critical to ensure there is no obstructions such as cupboards, counter tops, etc. The dotted line in the diagram indicates the limit of the pole/rod.
If you intend to have your curtain reach the floor then you need to take your drop style into consideration.

Drop Styles

  1. Off the Floor - deduct 20mm from the drop.
  2. Touching the Floor - add 100mm to the drop.
  3. Puddled - add 250mm to the drop.

Measuring with existing tracks and rods:

Width - Measure the width of the rod/track where the curtain will be hung. You should not include the decorative ends.

Drop with track

Eyelet - Measure from the top of the track to where the curtain should end, and then +30mm (top of curtain to eyelet).
Track only - Measure from the top of the track to where the curtain should end.
Track with cover rod - Measure from the bottom of the cover rod to where the curtain should end.
Curtain rods with rings - Measure from the bottom of the curtain ring to where the curtain should end.

Drop Styles

  1. Off the Floor - deduct 20mm from the drop.
  2. Touching the Floor - add 100mm to the drop.
  3. Puddled - add 250mm to the drop.
Tips!
  • We recommend using a metric metal tape measure and take the exact measurements to the millimetre.
  • Always double check your measurements.
